Fundraising
Your financial donations will help cover costs of medical services, housing incidentals, language support, and other training necessary for transition to life in our community. A portion will also go to purchasing humanitarian supplies which will be delivered to the most sensitive areas of Ukraine through a volunteer network established by the Ukrainian Club of Moncton.
Housing
The generosity of our community is evident in the many homes that have offered space to new immigrants. In most cases these arrangements are comfortable for a limited time and if the immigrants wish to stay, permanent housing is necessary. Like many others in our country today, Tantramar is facing a housing shortage so we are working on some creative solutions.
Furniture, equipment, and clothing
We are very grateful to those of you who generously donated items to help us provide a warm welcome to the families. If you have any material donations you may deliver them to the Ukrainian Club of Moncton at 90 Park Street or contact us for a drop off time and location in Sackville.
At this point we are not asking for clothing because the donations so far have exceeded the need for the foreseeable future however as more people come this may change and we will update this page.
Volunteer assistance
When new families arrive, there are many opportunities to help them feel at home. An active welcoming committee remains in place to assist them with paperwork, logistics, orienting them to life in Canada and Tantramar, and any other needs they have during their time here.
There are many ways volunteers can be involved: tutoring, conversational English, transportation, child care, shopping, cultural and social connections, friendship, and many other services. If you have time and talents that you can share with the newcomers, please contact a member of our team. We can promise an enriching experience.
Please note that while sponsored families are under the responsibility of TIST, volunteers who interact directly with the families are required to have a police check completed by the local RCMP, with no exceptions.
Student engagement
High school and university student involvement is crucial to the success of the TIST. If you are a student, or belong to a student group, and would like to be involved, please contact a member of our team.
